Objective To have knowledge about the usage of antibacterial drugs in community outpatient clinics of higher education institutions.Method 27 984 prescriptions of patients hospitalized in the hospital of henan institute of science and technology from march to may in each year of 2010-2012 were statistically analyzed.Results Total usage rate of antibacterial drugs for the last three years had been 11.4%;oral antibacterial drugs accounted for 84.2% of prescriptions using antibacterial drugs;prescriptions using combined antibacterial drugs accounted for 3.7%～2.4%;drugs ranked among the top three were cephalosporin

penicillin and quinolone

of which the non-indication usage rate were 6.8%

4.8% and 4.2% respectively.Conclusion Outpatients of this hospital have a rational use of antibacterial drugs

but there is also irrational drug use.Clinical pharmacists should propagate clinical principles of antibacterial drug use to physicians so as to promote rational drug use in the clinic.
