Objective To explore the infant/toddler feeding conditions in impoverished rural regions of western China and influencing factors of feeding metheds

and to provide basis for further comprehensive nutrition intervention.Method In a national-level and provincial-level poor county

namely Shangnan county in Shanxi province

494 parents of children from two towns were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire.Results The rate of proper addition of animal food by mothers of different educational background had statistically significant difference（χ2=12.141

P<0.01）

and it rose with educational background.The influencing factors of methods of making complementary food included family economic level（χ2=13.801

P<0.01） and the educational background of mother（χ2=16.198

P<0.01）.Conclusion As for the rate of proper addition of animal food and the methods of making complementary food

the main influencing factors involve family income and the educational background of mother.
