Objective To explore necessity and the implementation of food safety education of medical students.Method 194 students were randomly chosen from every major in kunming medical university

and they received a questionnaire related to food safety.Students majoring in clinical medicine were divided into 2 groups.101 students in experimental group received food safety education combined with medical chemistry teaching;42 students in control group received no corresponding food safety education.Results 94.85% of the students paid attention to food safety

and 47.94% students often refused unhealthy food though they liked it.Only 11.34% students did not often eat junk food like cured

fried and pickling food.The rate of awareness to food safety knowledge about trans fatty acids

acrylamide

benzopyrene and nitrite food in experimental group was higher than that of the control group

and the difference is statistically significant（P<0.05 or P<0.01）.Conclusion Most of students are aware of food safety but their professional knowledge about food safety is insufficient.With education

their awareness of food safety can be significantly strengthened and their health behaviors can be improved as well.The food safety education to medical students should be enhanced by way of combining relevant knowledge teaching with specific lectures.
