Objective This study was done to find out the status of college students’poor eyesight and to provide a scientific basis for protecting eyesight.Method 1 910 college studerts in South China Normal university（SCNU）were selected at rardom and examined.An analysis of the results was conducted.Results The poor eyesight occurrence rate is 84.71%

while the severe poor eyesight is 65.81%.The major cause for ametropia is myopia

and the constitution ratio of myopia is 97.10%.among SCNU college students in 2008.83.75% of students coming from countryside have poor eyesight and the corresponding occurrence among town students is 86.01%.There is no significant difference between these two group（P>0.05）.88.46% of female students suffer bad eyesight and male students 80.77%.The difference between these two group is significant（P<0.01）.Conclusion The poor eyesight occurrence is high enough to be concerned with.The severe status calls for education of college students in eyesight health.
