Objective To research and analyse the HBV infection situation of Guangzhou University freshman so as to improve the prevention and cure of hepatitis B in universityies. Methods ELISA "HBsAg HBsAb HBeAg HBeAb HBcAb" check-up and Lai’s hepatic function ALT check-up for 23 961 freshmen from Grade 2002 to Grade 2006 in Guangzhou University. Results Among the freshmen from Grade 2002 to 2006

HBsAg（+） rate is 13.03% on an average

the infection rate of "HBsAg（+） HBsAb（-） HBeAg（+） HBeAb（-） HBcAb（+）"and"HBsAg（+） HBsAb（-） HBeAg（-） HBeAb（+） HBcAb（+）" account for 6.65% and 5.41% of the total checked-up students; HBsAg（+） rate of male students is 16.05% and HBsAg（+） rate of female students is 9.76%

HBsAg（+） rate of male students is much higher than female students.;The HBsAg（+） carrying rate of grade 2006 students from rural areas is obviously higher than those from cities. Conclusion There is high HBV infection rate of university students. The situation is so severe that hepatic check-up for every freshman of universities and relevant isolation treatment is very necessary and crucial.
