Objective To understand the status and influence factors of professional identity of the undergraduates who are majoring in the public affairs management . Methods The questionnaires

which included general situations and professional identity

were administered to a stratified cluster sampling of undergraduates majoring in public affairs management at a medical university in Harbin. T test

one-way variance analysis and multiple linear regressions were used to analyze the influencing factors of professional identity. And the depth interview was carried out to explore the underlying causes of professional identity. Results The overall level of professional identity is not high among the undergraduates majoring in public affairs management at a medical university in Harbin

the score of it was 3.25±0.56

the score of cognition was 3.41±0.69

the score of emotionality was 3.21±0.78

the score of behavior was 3.24±0.71

the score of fitness was3.13±0.72. Multiple variables analysis results showed that the different grades

performances

whether to choose this major independently and whether or not only children had significant influences on their professional identity. The students who are in grade four

have high academic achievement (b=-0.276; P<0.01)

chosen this major independently (b=-0.277; P<0.01)

only one child (b=-0.233; P<0.05)

obtained more score of professional identity. Take grade four as reference

the score of professional identity in the students who are in grade two and three were lower significantly (b=-0.296，b=-0.369; P<0.05). And there was no remarkable difference between grade one and grade four (b=-0.008; P>0.05). Furthermore

the students whose score of professional identity had more possibility to engage the job related to this major (3.39±0.53

2.92±0.49; t= 4.414; P<0.01). Conclusions Universities should strengthen the publicity of this profession

optimize course settings

add job experiences

then enhance its professional identity and finally provide a guarantee for the talent pool in the field of public health management.
