: Objective To investigate the effectiveness of Practice-oriented Instruction in Non-classroon learning on medical students’ ability of medical translation. Methods Two classes of the same grade were randomly chosen from School of Pharmacy with one of them as the experimental group (EG) and the other the control group (CG). EG (60-student) was receiving English-teaching and also instructed in practicing medical translation after class

while CG (58-student) was receiving only classroom English-teaching. Analyses and assessments were done by course tests and questionnaires. Results EG showed more desirable effect than CG not only in the course test[(29.28±7.0209) vs.(22.08±9.4909)] but also in its positive attitude towards mode of teaching

class participation and problem-solving skills. Conclusion Well-planned Practice-oriented Instruction in non-classroom learning can improve medical students’ ability of medical translation.
