he short latency somatosensoy evoked potentials(SSEPs)were investigated in 180 normal children aged 1-14years stimulated at bilateral median and tibial nerves according to the recommended standards of American Elec-troencephalograph Society. The latency of main peaks
intepeak latencies and conduction veiocities in each age cate-gory were acquired. The conduction velorities in different section along the SSEPs pathway were closely changed withage but not significandy with they height and limb length. There were no significant difference in the values testedas above between opposite extremities. Conduction veloCities and the differences in latency or interpseak latency between both sides would be alsO useful parameters in clinical assessment of chidien’s SSEPs.Our results clearlyshowed the different velocities of the maturational pace along SSEPs pathway.Conduction velocity of SSEPs is thefastest in peri pheral nerves
next the spinal cord and the slowest in brain. Periplieral nerves has mosdy developedbefore hirth
then spinal coed and bmin after hirth.SSEPs can also be used to monitor the maturation of central andperipheral sensory pathway in children.
