The effects of propofol total intravenous anesthesia on intracranial pressure(ICP)
mean arteial press-ure(MAP)and cerebral perfusion pressure(CPP)were observed in 14 patients with elevated intracranial pressurescheduled for craniotomy.Anesthesia was induced with propofol 2mg/kg and maintained with infusion of 0.2%propofol The results showed:(1)ICP decreased 18.4% and 25.4% in 2 and 4 minutes of induction;MAP decreased20% and 22.9%;CPP decreased 18.2% and 26.7% P<0.05.(2)After incubation
ICP remained lower thanpre-induction level
MAP and CPP returned to pre-induction level
(3)CPP increasedobviously when tumor wasresected. It is concluded that propofol total intravenous anesthesia is appropriated for patients with elevated ICP.
