The authors proposed a definition for fan foot which emphasised the anatomical changes of the metatarsal transversal ligaments. 3 cases were treated with parallel tendon fixation and a modified McBride operation. By fixating the metatarsal necks the transverse arch was reconstructed
the width of the fore foot and the angle between the metatarsals was decreased
and the deformities of the fifth toe and the hallux vagus were corrected. Patients were followed up for 18~32 months with a satisfactory clinical outcome.
