To investigate the change of urinary epidermal growth factor(EGF)level in patients with NIDDM.Methods: The levels of EGF
AER and β2- MG were measured by radioimmunoassay(RIA?in 107 NIDDM patientsand 51 controls. Results: Urinary EGF in 107 diabetic patients was significantly decreased. As compared withthat in healthy subjects
urinary EGF was markedly higher in patients with normal AER and tz-MG
andsignificantly lower in those with increased AER and β2- MG
In patients with increased]AER and normal pt- MG
there was no significant change of urinary EGF. Conclusion: Urinary EGF closely relates to diabeticnephropathy and decreased EGF may provide an index of impaired renal function in NIDDM patients.
