Objective: To analyze the relation between systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and probe the therapeutic strategies. Methods: The clinical data of 256 patients accepted by our hospital were analyzed. The patients met at least two of the criteria for SIRS. Results: In 48 of the 143 malignant obstructive jaundice there was SIRS
the morbidity of SIRS was 33.6%
and the morbidity of MODS was 31%. In 36 of the 113 benign obstructive jaundice there was SIRS
the morbidity of SIRS was 31.9%; and the morbidity of MODS was 30.5%. There was no statistical significance ( P>0.05) of the morbidity of SIRS and MODS between two groups. The proportion of patients suffering from MODS increased with the number of SIRS criteria that the patients met
the mortality of the patients increased
and there was statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion:The outcome of the patients with obstructive jaundice can be improved on condition that SIRS is early diagnosed and early theated.
