Left heart function is a crucial factor to determine cardiovascular therapies and evaluate the effect of treatment and judge the prognosis in conditions such as heart failure, valvular conditions and ischaemic heart disease .Among echocardiographic methods, three dimensional echocardiography(3DE) has been attributed as the preferred one for its assessment, given an increased accuracy and reproducibility . Full-volume multi-beat acquisitions are prone to stitching artefacts due to arrhythmias and require prolonged breath holds .Single-beat acquisitions exhibit a lower temporal resolution, but address the limitations of multi-beat acquisitions .The 3DE manual algorithm remains time-consuming and laborious, which hinders its implementation in routine practice .With the further development of ultrasound technology, the fully automated knowledge-based algorithms for left heart function quantification may further promote the widespread use of 3DE in clinical work. This paper reviews the application status and research progress of 3DE automated algorithms of left heart function.
