Objective To analyze the correlation of carotid intimamedia thickness (CIMT) and plaque
and to predict the significance of coronary artery disease. Methods Angiography and carotid ultrasound results of 100 consecutive outpatients from October 2017 to August 2018 in Bishan people′s hospital were discussed. The extent of coronary stenosis was determined by using an angiographic scoring method and comparatively analyzed with the carotid intimamedia thickness
maximum plaque height and total plaque area in the bulbs by ultrasound measurement.Cutoff values of different parameters
which were achieved based on the receiver operating characteristic curves
were used to analyze the significance of coronary artery disease. Results For the cases with stenosis≥50%
the carotid intimamedia thickness
maximum plaque height
and total plaque area were (0.92±0.05) mm
(2.59±0.70) mm
and (45.3±12.0) mm2
respectively. They were significantly higher than those of stenosis <50% with (0.79±0.06) mm
(1.67±0.69)mm
(30.8±12.8) mm2
respectively.Which indicated that the increase of CIMT
as well as plaque height and area correlated with the significance of coronary artery disease(P<0.01).The optimal threshold values for coronary disease prediction were 0.83 mm
1.55 mm
28.5 mm2 for carotid intimamedia thickness
plaque height
and total plaque area
respectively.In these indicators
CIMT had the best negative likelihood ratio (0.07) for ruling out disease.ConclusionMeasurements of the carotid intimamedia thickness and plaque are of important significance for predicting coronary artery stenosis and coronary artery disease.Besides the commonused CIMT
plaque morphology can be also used as a sensitive imaging biomarker to determine the significance of coronary artery disease.
