Objective To investigate and analyze the situation of medical and nursing staff taking the initiative to inform inpatients of medical safety adverse events
and to provide reference for the development of measures to improve the initiative of medical and nursing staff to inform inpatients of medical safety adverse events. Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 400 medical and nursing staff members in a hospital in Henan Province as the study subjects. A self-made questionnaire was used to conduct this study. The questionnaire consisted of four parts: basic information
attitude of medical and nursing staff to voluntarily inform inpatients about medical safety adverse events
experiences of medical and nursing staff to voluntarily inform inpatients about medical safety adverse events
and satisfaction with the results of medical and nursing staff voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events. Results There was a statistically significant difference(P<0.05) in the scores for the attitude about voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events between staff members from different departments and with or without such experiences. There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05) when comparing the attitude scores of staff members with different training experience
occupation and age. Among the experiences of medical and nursing staff in voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events
there were statistically significant differences between doctors and nurses in terms of whether they had experience in informing
whether they had training experience
whether they were willing to participate in relevant training
and whether they supported voluntary informing as a requirement(P<0.05). The proportion of medical and nursing staffs who would definitely inform Grade I medical safety adverse events voluntarily was higher than the proportion of medical and nursing staffs who would inform Grade Ⅱ
Ⅲ and Ⅳmedical safety adverse events voluntarily
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The numbers of medical and nursing staff who were very satisfied
satisfied
and generally satisfied with the results of voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events were 40(10.00%)
200(50.00%)
and 120(30.00%)
respectively. Conclusion Health care personnel from different departments and with different informing experiences have varying attitudes toward voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events
doctors and nurses have different attitudes toward informing different levels of medical safety adverse events
and the proportion of health care personnel who are generally satisfied with the results of voluntarily informing inpatients about medical safety adverse events is higher. Therefore
corresponding measures can be taken accordingly to improve the initiative of medical and nursing staff to voluntarily inform inpatients of medical safety adverse events
promote information reciprocity between medical and nursing staff and patients
and make the doctor-patient and nurse-patient relationship develop harmoniously.
