Objective: To share nosocomial infection prevention and control strategies for phlebotomists at a children’s fever clinic of our hospital during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) epidemic. Methods: From January 27 to February 26
2020
15 phlebotomists developed and implemented a set of measures to prevent and control infection. They were monitored for body temperature and respiratory and systemic symptoms every day. Results:The phlebotomists formulated and implemented standardized infection control measures: preparing the environment and self-protection before blood drawing
selecting appropriate blood vessels
taking a safe standing position to draw blood
positioning and restraining the children in a suitable position
etc. No one had fever
with temperature between36.1°C and 37.0°C. No respiratory or systemic symptoms were observed. There was no nosocomial infection. Conclusion: Effective infection prevention and control measures can reduce nosocomial infection rate and prevent potential coronavirus infection among phlebotomists at the children’s fever clinic during the COVID-19 epidemic.
