Objective: To investigate the effects of blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs
wind drugs
and their combination on the blood-brain barrier permeability of rats with cerebral ischemia. Methods: Seventy-five healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group
model group
blood-activating group
wind drug group
and combination group. A rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion was established by the suture method. Gavage began 24 hours after the model was established and continued for 7 days. Then neurological function impairment score was evaluated. Cerebral infarct volume and the water content and Evans blue content of brain tissue were compared between different groups. Results: Compared with the model group
all the treatment groups
to varying degrees
significantly improved the neurological function of the rats and significantly reduced cerebral infarct volume and the water content and Evans blue content of brain tissue(P < 0.01). The combination group had significantly greater improvements in those indicators compared with the blood-activating group and wind drug group(P < 0.05). Conclusion: Wind drugs can enhance the efficacy of blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs
and their combination can
to a larger extent
decrease blood-brain barrier permeability and alleviate brain edema
