Objective To explore the effect of health education under the guidance of narrative medicine on the quality of life and cancer-caused fatigue of ovarian cancer patients. Methods Seventy ovarian cancer patients who received inpatient treatment in a hospital in Zhengzhou from July 2018 to January 2020 were selected as study subjects. The random number table method was used to divide the patients into a control group and a study group
with 35 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were given conventional health education
and patients in the study group were given narrative medicine guided health education intervention besides conventional health education. At 8 weeks of care
the knowledge of ovarian cancer-related knowledge of the 2 groups of patients was compared
and the quality of life and fatigue of the patients before and at 8 weeks of care were assessed by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General(FACT-G) and the Chinese version of the Brief Fatigue Inventory(BFIC). Results The disease knowledge acquisition rate of patients in the study group was 91.42%
which was higher than that of the control group(68.57%)
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). At 8 weeks of care
the scores of physical
emotional
social and family
and functional statuses on the FACT-G were(9.67±2.16)
(11.07±3.27)
( 5.26±1.03) and(4.34±0.90)
respectively
higher than those of the control group
which were(7.01±2.03)
(8.09±2.42)
(3.41±0.82) and(3.71±0.86)
respectively
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The rate of moderate to severe fatigue in the study group was 17.14%
which was lower than 60.00% in the control group
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion Health education under the guidance of narrative medicine can effectively improve the knowledge mastery rate of ovarian cancer patients
improve their quality of life and reduce their cancer-caused fatigue with significant effects
and is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
