Objective To analyze the data of 6 183 cancer patients admitted in a Nanyang hospital to evaluate the case mix characteristics of cancer patients
which may offer useful insights into cancer prevention and treatment efforts in this region. Methods All cancer patients registered in the hospital case reporting system from January 2014 to May 2016 were included in this analysis.Data such as age
gender and the ICD-10 code of the primary diagnosis were extracted from the database.Based on the ICD-code
patients were classified and analyzed. Results The top 3 malignancies with the highest constituent ratios were digestive system cancer(17.74%)
respiratory system cancer(16.19%)and genital system cancer(15.81%).In male patients
the top 3 malignancies were digestive system cancer(23.46%)
respiratory system cancer(18.20%)and CNS cancer(16.69%);whereas in female patients

respectively. The distribution of cancer patients in different age groups varied significantly with gender(χ2=99.015
P=0.000).Conclusion The cancer type and constituent ratio of cancer patients vary with gender and age in this region
which may be explained by the different life styles of different populations. Therefore
community-based strategy for cancer prevention and treatment should be created to provide individualized measures for different populations.
