attitude and behavior(K-A-B)among medical and nonmedical college students
so as to identify their nutritional problems
understand their need for nutrition education
and explore the potentially feasible education tools. Methods A medical college and a non-medical college were randomly selected for the survey.Forty students from each college were then randomly selected to participate in a group discussion
and 6students from each college attended an in-depth individual interview. Results Both medical and non-medical college students had inadequate knowledge about nutrition
and their access to nutritional knowledge was quite limited
especially for non-medical students.Several nutrition-related misunderstandings and unhealthy behaviors were identified among these students.Medical students of senior grades had better knowledge about nutrition compared with those of lower grades
but they still had many unhealthy nutritional behaviors. Most students were willing to receive nutrition education. Conclusion Challenges exist in nutrition K-A-B among both medical and non-medical college students
and there is a great need for nutrition education among these students.Universities should use various education tools to strengthen students’ nutrition education
which may help to develop healthy nutritional behaviors and ultimately improve their nutritional status and physical well-being.
