Objective To investigate the correlation between serum lipid levels and blood viscosity of male faculty members of a university in Chongqing. Methods 527 male staff of a university in Chongqing in 2015 were selected to test their total cholesterol(TC)
triglyceride(TG)
high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)
low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and other indicators of serum lipid
high shear whole blood viscosity(HS)
low shear whole blood viscosity(LS)
plasma viscosity(PV)
erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)and hematocrit(HCT)and other indicators of blood viscosity.According to their serum lipid levels
the male staff were divided into normal lipid group and hyperlipidemia group and test results of two groups were statistically analyzed. Results Among all 527 male faculty members
124 were detected hyperlipidemia and the prevalence of hyperlipidemia was 23.53%;levels of TC and LDL-C in hyperlipidemia group were obviously higher than normal lipid group and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);HS
LS
PV
ESR and HCT of hyperlipidemia group were obviously higher than normal lipid group and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);levels of HS
LS
PV and HCT were positively correlated with TC level
but were negatively correlated with HDL-C level(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum lipid levels and blood viscosity have a significant correlation and detection of blood viscosity is of much significance in the diagnosis of hyperlipidemia.
