Objective To explore the effect of strengthening sitting-standing training on the balance and walking ability in acute stroke patients. Methods 80 cases of patients with first onset of acute stroke who were hospitalized in Department of Neuro Medicine of a hospital in Chongqing from February 2013 to February 2015 were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group
40 cases in each. The control group were treated with conventional therapy and rehabilitation and besides conventional therapy and rehabilitation
the observation group were treated with strengthening sitting-standing training 15 minutes a time
5times a week for 3weeks.Before treatment and after three-week treatment
patients of both groups were scored with Berg Balance Scale(BBS)
Functional Ambulation Scale(FAC)and they were taken standing-walking timing(TUGT)and gait analysis. Results Before treatment
there were no significant differences in scores of BBS and FAC and TUGT results between the two groups. After three weeks of treatment
scores of BBS and FAC and TUGT results were both better than before treatment
scores of BBS and FAC and TUGT results of the observation group were better than the control group and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before treatment
the differences in walking speed
stride length
diseased ipsilateral and contralateral steps between the observation and control groups were not statistically significant. After three-week treatment
patients in both groups improved their walking speed
stride length
diseased ipsilateral and contralateral steps obviously(P<0.05)
the effect of the observation group was better than the control group and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion After stroke
patients should have sittingstanding training in the early stage to effectively improve their balance and walking ability
shorten their hospitalization time
reduce disability and complications and promote their rehabilitation of movement function.
