Objective To investigate body mass and blood pressure of graduate freshmen so as to provide an evidence of public health for body mass management and the prevention and control of hypertension in university hospitals. Methods 1 042 graduate freshmen from a university in Hubei province in 2013 were taken as the research objects and their physical examination results were statistically analyzed. Results Among 1 042 students
257(24.66%)were detected abnormal body mass(including low body mass
over body mass and obesity);the detection rate of low body mass in female freshmen was 24.41%
significantly higher than that of male freshmen(7.26%);the detection rate of over body mass and obesity in male students was 15.48%
significantly higher than that of female students(3.08%);the difference of body mass between the two genders was statistically significant(χ2=83.464
P=0.000).The detection rate of hypotension in girls was 11.61%
significantly higher than boys(6.45%);the detection rate of normal blood pressure in boys was 33.39%
significantly higher than that of girls(5.69%);the difference of blood pressure between male and female freshmen was statistically significant(χ2=114.370
