Objective To have knowledge about the attitudes of contemporary university students towards homosexuals and to provide theoretical reference for maintaining a harmonious society.Method A survey of 204 university students was conducted using the attitudes towards Lesbians and gay men scale（ATLG）（Chinese Version） developed by Herek and the result was statistically analyzed.Results Attitudes of all students surveyed towards gay men were more stringent than their attitudes towards lesbians（p<0.05）;attitudes of male students towards lesbians and gay men were more stringent than those of female students（p<0.05）;attitudes of rural students towards lesbians and gay men were more stringent than those of urban students（p<0.05）.Conclusion University students have a relatively low recognition for lesbians and gay men.
