Objective To study shyness of contemperary college students and to provide theoretical instructions for college stndents to overcome shyness for better communicative competence. Method By means of random sampling

192 college students were investigated with qnestionaires

using shynesis scale. Results The average score of college students’ shyness was 33.65.College students’ shyness had no difference in gender

grades and only child or not.The differences between students form cities and those from the country have statistical significance;the differences between student cadres and non-cadres have significance.Conclusion Shyness is a universal phenomenon among college stndents. the place where college students come from and whether they are cadres had significant effects on the degree of shyness.
