Objective To understand HBV infection among freshmen and provide the preventive basis for Hepatitis B. Method The survey of HBsAg tests was done to 25 055 freshmen in a certain university from the year 2001 to 2006. The carriers of HBsAg were given the tests of the five items of hepatitis B and liver function examination. Results HBsAg positive rate of 18.13 %

with two main infection types-HBsAg

HBeAg

HBcAb and HBsAg

HBeAb

HBcAb. The detection rate is 5.84 % and 6.18 % respectively

dominating 80.50 % of all the HBV infection types. Conclusion The detection rate of HBV infection in this university is higher

with no sign of going down

than the national average level

Hence high importance should be attached to it and the students who have not infected by HBV should take a vaccine for hepatitis B soon after entering the university.
