Fluid resuscitation strategies for septic shock in children
Septic shock refers to unstable hemodynamics and cardiovascular dysfunction induced by infection.Vasodilation,in⁃ creased vascular permeability, hypovolemia and ventricular dysfunction are its basic features, while relative or/and absolute intravascu⁃ lar volume deficiency is the main cause of septic shock. Therefore, fluid resuscitation is the cornerstone of treatment for septic shock, but inappropriate fluid resuscitation may exacerbate the condition instead. In recent years, many investigations in different aspects have been done on the optimization of resuscitation strategies, such as the choice of resuscitation fluid, the rate of fluid resuscitation, the total amount of fluid in resuscitation and the assessment of volume responsiveness. This article reviewed the fluid resuscitation strategies for septic shock in children based on recent researches,in order to provide reference for the treatment of children with septic shock.
