Objective To optimize the extraction conditions of pigments from Impatiens balsamina L.and to prepare environmentlly nail polish by using pigments from Impatiens balsamina L. as colour developing agent. Methods The effects of different solvents，raw material forms，solid-liquid ratio，pH，extraction time and extraction temperature on the extraction yields of pigments from Impatiens bal⁃samina L. were investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The best proportion of the auxiliary agents and pigment was selected to prepare nail polish with fast film forming rate and good film forming effect. Results The optimal extraction conditions of pigments from Impatiens balsamina L. were as follows：Impatiens balsamina L. in the form of dried powder as raw material，70% ethanol as extraction solvent，1∶3 as solid-liquid ratio，pH=1，3 hours as extraction time and 60°C as extraction temperature. The optimal proportions of dif⁃ferent components of nail polish were as follows：pigment 2 mL，acacia gum 10 g，tributyl citrate 1.5 mL，glycerol 2 g and deionized wa⁃ter 10 mL. Moreover，the nail polish prepared with this proportion can form film in 5 min and can be used as nail polish. Conclusion By optimizing the extraction conditions of the pigments of Impatiens balsamina L. and using them as the chromogenic agents，the nail polish with ideal film forming effect and green environmental protection was obtained.
