Objective To analyze the influence of oocyte retrieval cycle-related factors on the outcome of different embryo transfer times in patients with long protocol in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm in⁃jection and embryo transfer（IVF/ICSI-ET）. Methods The clinical data of 780 patients with long protocol IVF/ICSI-ET were analyzed retrospectively. Oocyte retrieval cycle-related factors were compared between the live-birth group and the non-live-birth group in patients on the first，second，and third（or more）embryo trans⁃fers. Results For patients on the first embryo transfer，the live-birth group had a significantly younger age， a significantly lower basal follicle-stimulating hormone（FSH）level，a significantly lower basal FSH to lu⁃teinizing hormone ratio，significantly lower starting and total doses of gonadotropin，and significantly higher numbers of retrieved oocytes，metaphase II oocytes，and good quality embryos in the oocyte retrieval cycle than the non-live-birth group（all P＜0.05）. The logistic regression analysis showed that the number of good quality embryos was the influencing factor for outcome on the first embryo transfer. There were no significant dif⁃ferences in age，basal FSH，and the number of retrieved oocytes between the live-birth group and the non-live-birth group on the second transfer or on the third（or more）transfer（all P>0.05）. Conclusion In patients with long protocol IVF/ICSI-ET，live birth can be affected by the number of good quality embryos in the oocyte retrieval cycle on the first embryo transfer，but may be not associated with the oocyte retrieval cy⁃cle-related factors on the second or more embryo transfer.
