Application of nursing intervention based on Snyder’s hope theory model in preventing postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients after total hip arthroplasty with ERAS
Objective To evaluate the effect of nursing intervention based on Snyder’s hope theory model in preventing postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients after total hip arthroplasty with enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS). Methods A total of 102 elderly patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty from January 2018 to July 2020 were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into control group(n=50)and experi⁃mental group(n=52). After total hip arthroplasty, the control group was treated with conventional ERAS,and the experimental group was treated with ERAS based on the Snyder’s hope theory model. The Mini-Mental State Exami⁃nation(MMSE),Herth Hope Scale(HHS),Self-Perceived Burden Scale(SPBS),and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)were used before and after the intervention to evaluate the clinical outcome. Results After intervention, compared with the control group, the experimental group had significantly higher MMSE and HHS scores and signifi⁃cantly lower SPBS and SAS scores(all P<0.001). Conclusion The application of nursing intervention based on Snyder’s hope theory model can effectively improve the hope level in elderly patients after total hip arthroplasty with ERAS,reduce self-perceived burden and incidence of anxiety, and prevent postoperative cognitive dysfunction.
