Proliferation pattern of ICCs in rat bladder from newborns to adults and its relationship with bladder excitability
To observe the proliferation pattern of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the bladder of rats from birth to adulthood and explore its relationship with bladder excitability.
Methods
2
Forty newborn rats were divided into 2 groups
with 20 rats in each group. The bladder from the first group underwent c-kit and Ki67 staining on days 1
15
30
45 and 60 after birth to observe cell proliferation. The bladder from the second group underwent c-kit and SM-actin staining to observe distribution density of ICCs under a confocal microscope
and the excitability of bladder muscle strips was measured at the same time points.
Results
2
The proliferation and distribution density of ICCs in the bladder started to increase since day 1 and culminated on day 30. Then the proliferation significantly slowed down
and the distribution density tended to be stable. The excitability of bladder muscle stripes was in a decrease trend from day 1
and then turned to stable from day 45 to day 60.
Conclusion
2
ICCs in the rat bladder show rapid proliferation since birth
and the distribution density becomes stable on day 45. The excitability of bladder is decreased gradually along with the distribution density increase of the ICCs
