OBJECTIVE: To investigate the treatment effects of quick-acting hiccup relief decoction combined with acupuncture therapy in the treatment of intractable hiccup of deficiency after chemotherapy. METHODS: Totally 150 malignant tumor patients with intractable hiccup after chemotherapy admitted into People’s Hospital of Tangshan from Jan. 2018 to Jun. 2019 were extracted to be divided into five groups via the random residue grouping method
with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given intramuscular injection of racemic anisodamine hydrochloride
the acupoint injection group was treated with intramuscular injection of metoclopramide hydrochloride injection at Zusanli
the quick-acting hiccup relief group was given oral quick-acting hiccup relief decoction
the acupuncture group was treated with general acupuncture point treatment
and the combination group received oral quick-acting hiccup relief decoction combined with acupuncture therapy. 5 days were set as a course of treatment. The clinical efficacy
recurrence of hiccup and incidence of adverse drug reactions of five groups were observed. RESULTS: After treatment of 5 d
the clinical effective rate of the combination group was 90. 00%( 27/30)
significantly higher than that of the control group( 53. 33%
16/30)
the acupoint injection group( 66. 67%
20/30)
the quick-acting hiccup relief group( 70. 00%
21/30) and the acupuncture group( 70. 00%
21/30)
the differences were statistically significant( P<0. 05). The 5 th day after the end of 1 course of treatment
the recurrence rate of hiccup in the combination group was 6. 67%( 2/30)
significantly lower than that in the control group( 36. 67%
11/30)
the acupoint injection group( 26. 67%
8/30)
the quick-acting hiccup relief group( 13. 33%
4/30) and the acupuncture group( 16. 67%
5/30)
with statistically significant differences( P<0. 05). The incidence of adverse drug reactions was lower in the combination group than in the other four groups. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment based on deficiency is an important principle for traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of intractable hiccup after chemotherapy. Quickacting hiccup relief decoction combined with acupuncture therapy produces multiple tonic effects through multiple treatments with significant curative effects
which can reduce recurrence rate of hiccup and incidence of adverse drug reactions
and provide reference for clinical treatment of intractable hiccup.
