A control study of stress-related factors in adolescent conduct disorder
Objective:To study the relationship between adolescent conduct disorder and life events
social support and coping styles.Methods:86 adolescents with conduct disorder and 118 normal controls were tested by general state questionnaire
adolescent self-rating life events checklist(ASLEC)
perceived social support scale(PSSS)and trait coping style questionnaire(TCSQ).Results:Compared with normal controls
the adolescents with conduct disorder had higher scores in the items of interpersonal relationship
study pressure
punishment
healthy adjustment
total life events and some others(P<0.01)
and had lower scores in the items of family support
friend support and total social support(P<0.05).The adolescents with conduct disorder took more negative coping styles
and less positive coping styles
which resulted in a remarkable difference when compared with that in normal controls(P<0.01).Life events showed negative correlation with positive coping styles(P<0.05)
but showed highly positive association with negative coping styles(P<0.01).Social support was highly positively associated with positive coping styles(P<0.01)
while it was highly negatively associated with negative coping styles(P<0.01).Regression analysis showed that the family support was protective factor of conduct disorder
but study pressure was risk factor of conduct disorder. Conclusion:The adolescents with conduct disorder are related with negative life events
less social support and poor coping styles. We should alleviate the stress of life events and provide good social support for adolescents
and help them acquire the positive coping ability so as to reduce their delinquency.
