Non-thoracoscopic minimally invasive modified Nuss procedure for correction of pectus excavatum
Objective:To study the curative effect and safety of non-thoracoscopic minimally invasive modified Nuss procedure for correction of pectus excavatum(PE) in order to provide reliable theoretical data to select different techniques. Methods:From January
2008 to September 2010
175 cases of PE were selected from thoracic surgery of our hospital. The consumed time of operation
blood loss during operation
length of postoperative hospital stay and the effects of the treatment of pectus excavatum were evaluated. Results:The procedure was completed smoothly in all the 175 patients. The operating time was15~37 min(mean
22 min).The intraoperative blood loss was 3~10 ml(mean
5 ml).The length of postoperative hospital stay was 1~2 d(mean
1.5 d).There was no operative complications and mortality.Excellent efficacy assessment was in 170 cases and good in 5 cases. Conclusion: The non-thoracoscopic minimally invasive modified Nuss procedure is a safe surgical way with many advantages
such as minimal invasion
shorter operation time and lower cost.It is as safe as the thoracoscopic minimally invasive Nuss procedure and suitable for most cases.
