Implication of genome analysis methodsin cancer molecular diagnosis
Cancers are genome diseases characterized with significant aberrations in cancer genome.Over the past two decades
significant progresses have been made in understanding of molecular tumorigenesisat the DNA
RNA and epigenetic levels.Such advances lay out foundations for molecular diagnoses of cancers at genome levels.Clinical cancer samples available for diagnosis are usually small in quantity and suboptimal in quality
which poses challenges for assessing genetic abnormalities using conventional molecular techniques. With the development of the latest whole genome technologies
mainly array-based and next generation sequencing methods
it becomes possible to comprehensively exam cancer genome with high specificity and sensitivity. This review provides overview on new genome analysis technologies that are relevant to cancer diagnosis
and their potential implications in management of cancer patients including diagnosis
