The effect of folic acid on plasma homocysteine and main cardiovascular events for patients with hyperhomocysteinima-related hypertention
Objective:To evaluate the effect of folic acid on plasma homocysteine and main cardiovascular events in patients with hyperhomocysteinima-related hypertention.Methods:264 patients with hyperhomocysteinima-related hypertention were randomly divided into two groups. All patients in the two groups were given the routine treatment with antihypertensive drug.124 patients in the treatment group were given oral folic acid(5 mg/d)in addition to routine treatment. Results:The plasma homocysteine in treatment group was reduced significantly compared with that ofpretreatment and control group after folic acid administration for 3 months(P<0.05).The survival rates of none cardiovascular events was 85% in control group and 93.5% in treatment group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The treatment of oral folic acid reduces the level of plasma homocysteine and increases the survival rates of none cardiovascular events in patients with hyperhomocysteinima-related hypertention.
