Expression and significance of plasma BDNF in patients with schizophrenia
Objective:To investigate the characteristics of plasma brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)levels in patients with schizophrenia and the possibility of BDNF as the biological marker of schizophrenia.Methods:44 patients with schizophrenia and 45 matched normal controls were enrolled.Assessment was performed with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)
and serum BDNF levels were detected by ELISA.All data were analyzed by SPSS18.0.Results:①Serum BDNF levels in patients with schizophrenia were significantly decreased compared with those in normal controls(P<0.01);②No significant correlation was found between serum BDNF levels in patients and their severities of schizophrenia. Conclusion:BNDF may be a candidate biological marker of schizophrenia.
