Expressions and clinicopathological significance of PCDGF and VEGF in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma
Objective: To investigate the expressions of PC cell-derived growth factor(PCDGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in basal cell carcinoma(BCC)
squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) and their relationship with clinical pathological parameters of SCC.Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was used to examine the expressions of PCDGF and VEGF in 42 cases of SCC
30 cases of BCC and 20 specimens of normal skin. Results: PCDGF and VEGF proteins were abnormally increased in SCC and BCC as compared with normal skin(all P<0.01).Expressions of PCDGF and VEGF in SCC were also significantly higher than those in BCC(both P<0.01).The positive expressions of PCDGF and VEGF tended to be associated positively with the invasion depth of SCC(both P<0.01) as well as tumor metastasis(both P<0.01).But the positive expressions of PCDGF and VEGF were not related with the tumor size or histological grades(both P>0.05).The Spearman analysis indicated that the expression level of PCDGF was positively correlated with that of VEGF significantly in SCC(rs=0.765
P<0.01).Conclusion:These findings suggest that PCDGF and VEGF play an important role in the pathogenesis of epidermal tumors.Abnormal expressions of PCDGF and VEGF may be related to infiltration and metastasis potential in SCC.
