Protective effect of probucol on the kidney of aging rats induced by D-galactose
Objective: To evaluate protective effects and possible mechanism of probucol on the kidney of aging rats induced by D-galactose.Methods:36 rats were divided randomly into 3 groups : negative control group(12 rats)
aging group(12 rats)
and probucol treatment group(12 rats). The sub-acute aging model rats were made by injecting D-gal into abdomen continuously(100 mg/kg
42 d).The morphological changes were observed. The activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and GSH-Px and the concentration of malondialdehyde(MDA) in the kidney were examined. Results:There were obvious glomerular dilatation
focal glomeru-lonephritis
tubular dilatation
part of the tubular atrophy and tubulointerstitial fibrosis in model groups. These changes were remarkably relieved in probucol treatment group. The activities of SOD and GSH-Px in model group were decreased
and the concentration of MDA was increased. In comparison
the activities of SOD and GSH-Px in treatment group were significantly increased
and the concentration of MDA was decreased(P<0.05).Conclusion:Probucol can decrease the level of MDA and increase the activities of SOD and GSH-Px
