Objective:To understand the willingness of medical students in a university in Chongqing to accept circumcision and influencing factors

so as to provide basis for developing publicity materials aiming at promoting the AIDS focus groups’ willingness to accept the circumcision.Methods:A cluster random sampling method was used for finding out 580 students from grade 1 to grade 4

with the same questionnaire to conduct the cross-sectional survey.Results:Reasons for unwillingness were as follows:no effect on health and therefore no need(76.31%)

worrying about the risk of surgery(38.96%)

not knowing the medical benefits of surgery(26.51%)

worrying that surgery would affect sexual function(22.89%)

and worrying that the cost may be too high(15.66%).When it became clear to them that the rate of various complications was very low;the operation could prevent AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases;and keep the reproductive system healthy

the acceptance rate increased by 33.06%

and might increase by 40.82%(P<.0001).The results of the multivariate logistic regression showed that the factors affecting the willingness to accept the surgery were as follows:whether or not they had phimosis or redundant foreskin;whether the surgery could increase the sexual satisfaction in the future or not;whether or not there were close friends or relatives who had had this surgery

and so on.Conclusion:The promotion of the operation in the public needs our promulgation.Medical students who have accepted the operation can be trained for healthy education to other people;meanwhile

relevant divisions or departments can make improvement in technology and make the surgery cheaper

safer and easier.
