The clinical experience of Doxepin for adjuvant treatment of bronchial asthma
Objective:To investigate the effect of Doxepine in treating bronchial asthma attack through the remission of anxiety and depresstion in clinic.Methods:53 patients with bronchial asthma were randomly allocated into two groups
Doxepine treatment group(28 cases) and control group(25 cases). The relieving asthma and anti-inflammatory therapy was given in both groups and those patients in the treatment group were administrated with Doxepine 25mg twice a day for 2 to 3 weeks. In addition
force volume capacity(FVC)
the percent value of the first second of forced expiratory volume(FEV1%) and the change of peak expiratory flow(PEF) were determined before and after therapy. The anxiety and depression scores in those asthma patients were evaluated by the hospital anxiety depression scale(HAD).Results:Asthma symptoms and physical signs in the two groups were obviously improved. However
the chief complaint and attack frequency in the treatment group were decreased significantly compared with those in the control group(P<0.05).Further more
the values of FEV1% and PEF in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group and HAD score in the treatment group was apparently improved(P<0.05).Conclusion:Bronchial asthma is a psychosomatic disease characterized by airway responsiveness inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness.Psychological and emotional factors play an important part in asthma attack and control.Doxepine as an adjunctive therapy for asthma may obviously improve asthma attack and pulmonary function in the bronchial asthma patients.
