Correlative analysis between eIF4E and VEGF expression and angiogenesis and metastasis of human esophageal carcinoma
Objective:To investigate the expression of eIF4E and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on neoangiogenesis and metastasis of human esophageal carcinoma. Methods:Immunohistochemistry was used to study the expression of eIF4E
VEGF and microvessel density(MVD) in 131 cases of esophageal carcinoma tissues.VEGF and eIF4E were detected also in 20 cases of adjacent normal esophageal tissues.CD34 was used to explore the microvessel density(MVD) as marker of endothelial cell.Results:eIF4E and VEGF showed a higher expression in esophageal carcinoma tissues than normal esophageal tissues. The expression of eIF4E and VEGF were significantly related to clinico-pathological features(depth of invasion
lymph-node metastasis and TNM stage) and MVD.Conclusion:the co-expression of eIF4E and VEGF plays a key role in angiogenesis
invasion and metastasis of esophageal carcinoma.eIF4E and VEGF may serve as a new target for the treatment of esophageal cancer.
