Effects of immunoadsorption therapy for acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy
Objective:To evaluate the comparative efficacy of Immunoadsorption(IA) versus Low dose alternate day plasma exchange(PE) in patients with acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy(AIDP).Methods:36 patients with AIDP were studied retrospectively.15 were treated with IA
and 21
with Lowdose alternate day PE.The neurological deficits of both groups were evaluated by Hughes scale and Medical Research Council(MRC)-score
based on which the improvement of neurological deficits and clinical efficacy were observed. Results:Both therapies improved the neurological deficits of the patients with AIDP
and there was no significant difference between them. The whole effective rate was much higher in the IA group on the 1st day after the treatment
but no significant difference was found at 1 week and 2 weeks between the two groups
which showed no significant difference in effective rate between the two groups according to the clinical types and the age stratification study. Conclusion:Compared with low dose alternate day PE
IA therapy was found with approximately the same efficacy. Therefore
IA is recommended as an alternative plasmapheresis method.
