Efficacy of carboplatin plus etoposide as second-line treatment on 17 patients with small cell lung cancer
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Carboplatin plus Etoposide(CE)as second-line regimen in previously treated Small cell lung cancer(SCLC).Methods:The medical documents of 17 patients with recurrent SCLC
who experienced relapse after initial Adriamycin
Etoposide plus ifosfamide chemotherapy and accepted second-line CE treatment
were collected from Jan.1999 to Dec.2003 in the Service of Respiratory Diseases
University Hospital
Bordeaux.The response rate
survival time and adverse events were evaluated retrospectively. Results:Of these patients
total objective response rate(OR)of CE was 41.2%
free survival time was 4.3 months
median survival time was 5.7 months. The occurrence rates of grade 3~4 neutrope- nia
anemia
nausea/vomit were 35.3%
29.4%
5.9%
respectively. Conclusion:CE is effective for previously treated SCLC
who experienced relapse after first-line regimen without platinum. The most common adverse events are neutropenia and anemia. Further investigation is needed to confirm that CE regimen is good choice for the recurrent SCLC.
