Spiral computed tomography in diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors
Objective:To investigate the imagings and value of Spiral CT(SCT)in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST).Methods:18 patients with surgically and pathologically proved GIST were collected and retrospectively analyzed.Spiral CT plain and enhancement scanning were performed in 18 cases. Results:Of the 18 cases
1 was located in esophagus
8 in stomach
7 in mesentery and 2 in jejunum
respectively. There are 6 benign and 12 malignant cases. The characteristic ap- pearances of the malignant cases were as follows:①the tumors were lobular in shape;②the lesions contained large patchy necrosis;③around and inside the tumor
small vessels arranged in clumps or distortion
and the supply arteries were seen;④invasion of adjacent tissues and/or distance metastasis happened. The positive predictive value of SCT for location of GIST was 61.1%(11/18).By surgery and pathology
benign GIST was identified in 4 cases
malignant in 12cases
and active prolifera- tion in 2 cases. Conclusions:SCT is helpful in differentiating benign GIST from malignant as well as its stages
instructing clinical treatment and estimating prognosis.
