Study on the efficacy and safety of N-acetyl-L-cysteine injection in mucolytic treatment of respiratory tract infection administered by inhalation route
Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC)injection in mucolytic treatment of patients with thick
viscous sputum.Methods:40 patients entered the parallel
randomized clinical trial
18 in study group were treated with NAC injection of 300mg/3ml and 22 in control group with bromhexine injection of 6mg/3ml
b.i.d
for 6 days. Both were given by inhalation route. Results:After treatment reduction in sputum quantity
viscosity and cough severity were shown in both of the two groups. The effective rate of NAC group was 66.67%and that of bromhexine was 61.11%.The adverse events rates of the two groups were 6.25% and 4.55%
respectively. There were no significant differences between these two groups in effective rates
daily mark(scores) of clinical parameters and adverse effect rates (P>0.05).Conclusion:NAC injection is an effective and well-tolerated mucolytic agent as administered by inhalation route for patients with thick
