A DNBS-induced model of ulcerative colitis in rats
Objective:To build the model of ulcerative colitis(UC) induced by 2
4-dinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (DNBS).Methods:The experimental UC was induced in Wistar rats by enema with 0.25ml of 18% DNBS dissolved in ethanol. Results:DNBS caused severe diarrhea with colorectal bleeding for 2~3 days and mucous diarrhea for 21 days. The pathologic changes of the colon included hyperemia
edema
ulcerations localized in colonic mucosa
depletion of goblet cells and formation of crypt abscess. Conclusion:The DNBS-induced model of UC in rats is similar to human UC
