Evaluation of membrane-covered self-expanding stent in clinical use
Objective: To evaluate therapeutic effect of membrane-covered self-expanding metallic stent for advanced esophageal carcinoma
anastomotic stricture and esophagotracheal fistula. Methods: Twenty-two membrane-covered self expandable stents were implanted in patients with malignant stricture
anastomotic stricture and esophagotracheal fistula. The implantation of the stents was performed under endoscopy and oral implantation or surgery. Results: The degree of dysphagia was reduced. The quality of life for the patients is obviously improved
except 50% stent tube migration for anastomotic stricture (2/4). Conclusion: Membrane-covered self-expanding metallic stent is effective
safe and easy to insert
especially
for the stricture of the advanced esophageal carcinoma and the esophagotracheal fistula patients.
