The effect of octreotide on growth and apoptosis in human breast carcinoma cell line MCF-7
Objective: To study the effect of somatostatin analogue octreotide (OCT)on growth and apoptosis in breast cancer cell. Methods:Estrogen receptor(ER)-positive human bresast carcinoma cell line MCF-7 was treated with OCT in vitro. Cell proliferation was evaluated by MTT assay
distribution of cell cycle and rate of apoptosis were determined by flow cytometry
and apoptosis was confirmed by morphology and ultrastructural alternations. Results:OCTcould inhibit the growth
arrest the cell cycle
and induce the apoptosis in MCF-7 cells. Conclusion:OCT possessed an inhibitory effect on proliferation of breast cancer cells
and the me chanism for antitumor was associated with induction of apoptosis.
