Application of clue cell grading in the bacterial vaginosis diagnosis
Objective: To study the value of clue cell grading in the bacterial vaginosis (BV) diagnosis. Meth- ods :. 427 BV patients were diagnosed by clinical symptoms and Gram’s (G) stian and graded according to the ra- tio of clue cell in the epithelium with G staining. Results: There was no difference between patients with BV and without BV when the ratio of clue cell was equal to or over 20% and less than 40% ( + ) (P >0.05). There was however significant difference between them when the ratio of clue cell was above 40% (++ - + + + +). When the ratio of clue cell was equal to or above 40%
the sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 98.8% re- spectively in the BV diagnosis. Conclusion : Clue cell grading could be used as a semi - quantitative index in the BV diagnosis.
